Nothing helps improve a performance car quite like stripping it of a few pounds in weight. It certainly worked for the 968. Porsche ripped out 50kg of clobber and created the Clubsport, a car that matched the 911 for sheer driver enjoyment.
The weight loss was combined with stiffer suspension, bigger wheels and tyres and recalibrated steering all of which turned the 968 into a hard driver's delight. (As if to reinforce that role, the options list included a limited slip diff). Playful and predictable, the 968 CS really was one of those extra special cars you feel at one with. Little wonder then, that in 1993 the 968 was Performance Car's Car of the Year
