MERCEDES 500 E

The only Mercedes V8, to be built in conjunction with Porsche, as with the Audi RS. This has produced a superbly refined car for any situation with a performance and chassis unrivalled by any other Mercedes. A true legend.
Mercedes E500/500E (V8 engine in 300E Body) manufactured 1991-94, all 10.000 cars in LHD form only. 8 cylinders 5 litres 326bhp 354lb / ft of torque. 0.60 5.9sec. 0-100 14 secs. Top speed rev limited 156mph. New price £61.500.

BRABUS MERCEDES 500 E 6.0

In the pouring rain, with the anti-slip device operating twice to stop us slipping sideways on our full throttle charge to 100km/h, the Brabus Mercedes 500E 6.0 still tripped the timing equipment at 6.5 sec. In the dry, it was a remarkable 5.4-sec!
For power junkies, this latest creation from the German town of Bottrop turns the healthy 5.0 litre 326bhp engine of a 500E into a 6.0 litre 408bhp monster with a monumental 445lb / ft of torque.

Even with the low axle ratio as tested, the 500E 6.0 will reach 161mph. With the tallest ratio, make that 176mph faster than a Lotus Carlton.

The 500E is a rare sight in Britain because not many people will pay over £50.000 for a left hooker.
